With Jesus Christ as the cornerstone, we build. We build inwardly, and outwardly. Inwardly, as we seek God and worship together, our hearts and our minds are molded and shaped into the image of Christ. As our hearts and minds are being transformed, we desire for others to experience the growing freedom we experience with Christ guiding our lives.
Robert Crossman writes about this desire to share worship with others. Some of his thoughts contain numbers that can be a point of center.
ONE – One God. One Savior. One Body. One invitation. A personal invitation to worship is the most effective way to help someone experience worship for the first time.
THREE – The Trinity. Three crosses on the hillside. Three minutes. Guests typically leave the building within Three minutes after worship. What if we spent those first THREE minutes after “Go Now in Peace” finding someone we don’t know, and saying “Hi” while offering warm a smile. It can be a brief, yet powerful interaction. We extend a genuine thank you for worshiping together or we offer the hope that we’ll see them again.
TEN – Ten Commandments. Ten original disciples witnessing the resurrected Christ in that Upper Room after Judas was gone and Thomas was out of the room. Circle of Ten. With the Circle of Ten, we challenge ourselves to personally greet every person sitting within Ten feet of us on Sunday morning.
SIXTY – Isaiah 60 begins with “Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.” It takes Sixty seconds in a week to invite a person to worship. It takes Sixty seconds to offer an invitation in person, with a phone call, or through a text message.
With Christ as the cornerstone, we are molded, shaped, and secured as part of the foundation of the church. With Christ as the cornerstone, we build, one brick at a time.
